From there the lap runs along the coast towards Siracusa and back to the start: 10.548 kilometres, which the marathon covers four times, the half twice and the short race once.\n\nThe Playa is the long sandy stretch south of the city, and the course stays entirely on it: shore road, beach clubs, pines and the open sea alongside, with Etna behind the city. Unlike most Italian city marathons there is no old town here, no cobbled section and no narrow lanes, just one wide, flat axis.\n\nThe profile confirms that without compromise: 28 metres of ascent over the measured 42.3 kilometres, an elevation band between 5.4 and 7.6 metres above the sea, and a flat classification. This is the eighth edition; the limit is six hours, and everyone who finishes the distance receives a bronze medal cast with material from Etna's 2021 eruption.",{"de":124,"en":125},"Vier identische Runden sind das beste Pacing-Werkzeug, das ein Marathon dir geben kann: Ab Kilometer 11 kennst du jeden Meter, jede Verpflegungsstelle und jede Windrichtung. Teile die Runde gedanklich in die Abschnitte zwischen den Verpflegungsstellen und denke nicht in Runden.","Four identical laps are the best pacing tool a marathon can give you: from kilometre 11 you know every metre, every aid station and every wind direction. Use it and plan a deliberately negative split, with the first lap as calibration and the last on feel.\n\nThe trap is exactly that uniformity. There is no climb to correct you, no corner to slow you and no change of scene to distract you, so a fast start only shows in the third lap. Run the first ten kilometres at the easy end of your range and resist the temptation of the flat profile.\n\nWind decides the race. An out-and-back lap on an open coast means you run every wind direction eight times, and your splits will swing accordingly while your effort does not. Judge the wind by effort, not by the watch. The second point is psychological: from the third lap on you pass a finish line that is not yet yours. Break the lap mentally into the segments between aid stations and do not think in laps.",{"de":127,"en":128},"Für Altersklassenathleten bedeutet die Catania Marathon rund dreieinhalb bis sechs Stunden Belastung; das Zeitlimit liegt bei sechs Stunden. For age-group runners the Catania Marathon means roughly three and a half to six hours on the road, against a six-hour limit. The demand is about as uniform as a marathon can be: 28 metres of ascent over 42 kilometres, no categorised climb and no section that breaks your rhythm from outside. Your whole preparation therefore aims at pace tolerance and running economy.\n\nBuild your long runs to 30-35 km and place 12-15 km at marathon race pace at the end rather than the start. Add threshold runs of 12 to 18 kilometres, because on a course that gives you no terrain excuse your threshold performance decides the finishing time almost on its own.\n\nTwo things need training course-specifically, and both are as much mental as physical. First the lap structure: put a few long runs deliberately on a short loop you repeat several times, so that passing the finish four times is not a surprise on race day. Second the wind: run some tempo sessions on open waterfronts and practise accepting slower splits at unchanged effort.\n\nOn conditions: mid-December in Sicily is mild, appreciably milder than mainland Italy at the same time of year, and the Playa lies open and unshaded on the coast. On a course with seven metres of climbing there is only one task: run evenly. Plan even splits, but note that the course is 10.5 rather than 10.0 kilometres, so your target time will sit some two to three percent above your ten-kilometre best.\n\nThe start shared with the marathon is the first trap. The people around you have four times as far to go and set off accordingly slower; let them slow you and you lose time in the first kilometre, chase the quickest and you are running a marathon opening. Find your own pace early.\n\nThe turnaround and the wind decide the rest. The single 180-degree turn breaks the rhythm noticeably over ten kilometres, so take it wide rather than braking. And because you run the same shoreline in both directions you get a tailwind and a headwind once each: run by effort rather than by the watch, and start your finishing effort only on the last straight to the Lido Verde.",{"de":293,"en":294},"Gut zehneinhalb Kilometer bedeuten für die meisten Altersklassenathleten zwischen 42 und 80 Minuten; das Zeitlimit liegt bei 1:20 Stunden und ist damit für Einsteiger eine reale Vorgabe. A good ten and a half kilometres means between about 42 and 80 minutes for most age-group runners, and the 1:20 limit is a real constraint for beginners. The demand is steadily aerobic close to threshold, with seven metres of climbing and therefore no hill component at all, plus a single break in rhythm at the turnaround.\n\nThreshold and race-pace work are the backbone: tempo runs of 20 to 30 minutes and intervals of 1,000 to 2,000 metres at goal pace, plus a weekly long run of 60 to 90 minutes as the base. Hill training has no course-specific value here.\n\nTwo stimuli pay off: the turnaround, which you should practise at race pace on an out-and-back loop, and the wind, for which a few tempo sessions on open, unsheltered waterfronts are enough. Remember, too, to run the actual race distance of 10.5 kilometres occasionally in training rather than a round ten, so the closing stretch feels familiar.\n\nOn conditions: mid-December in Sicily is mild and the 09:00 start falls in the pleasantest part of the day, but the Playa is open and unshaded and wind off the sea is the deciding weather factor. The surface is hard shore-road asphalt throughout, so put part of your training on asphalt too.",[296],{"eventName":6,"eventDate":9,"eventHomepageUrl":11},[298,308,315,323,330,337],{"slug":299,"eventName":300,"proseName":301,"city":303,"country":8,"eventType":13,"eventDate":304,"distanceInMeters":305,"elevationGainInMeters":306,"classification":307},"supermaratona-dell-etna","Brooks SuperMaratona dell'Etna",{"de":302,"en":302},"SuperMaratona dell'Etna","Linguaglossa","2027-06-12T00:00:00.000Z",43000,2648,"MOUNTAINOUS",{"slug":309,"eventName":310,"proseName":311,"city":312,"country":8,"eventType":13,"eventDate":313,"distanceInMeters":21,"elevationGainInMeters":314,"classification":25},"neapolis-marathon","Neapolis Marathon",{"de":310,"en":310},"Naples","2026-10-18T00:00:00.000Z",228,{"slug":316,"eventName":317,"proseName":318,"city":319,"country":8,"eventType":13,"eventDate":320,"distanceInMeters":21,"elevationGainInMeters":321,"classification":322},"maratona-di-palermo","Maratona Internazionale Città di Palermo",{"de":317,"en":317},"Palermo","2026-11-15T00:00:00.000Z",362,"ROLLING",{"slug":324,"eventName":325,"proseName":326,"city":327,"country":8,"eventType":13,"eventDate":328,"distanceInMeters":21,"elevationGainInMeters":329,"classification":25},"bologna-marathon","Bologna Marathon",{"de":325,"en":325},"Bologna","2027-03-07T00:00:00.000Z",216,{"slug":331,"eventName":332,"proseName":333,"city":334,"country":8,"eventType":13,"eventDate":335,"distanceInMeters":21,"elevationGainInMeters":336,"classification":25},"firenze-marathon","Estra Firenze Marathon",{"de":332,"en":332},"Florence","2026-11-29T00:00:00.000Z",125,{"slug":338,"eventName":339,"proseName":340,"city":341,"country":8,"eventType":13,"eventDate":342,"distanceInMeters":21,"elevationGainInMeters":343,"classification":25},"lago-maggiore-marathon","Lago Maggiore Marathon",{"de":339,"en":339},"Verbania","2026-11-08T00:00:00.000Z",217,1789876651165]
