Course & Elevation

The lap runs clockwise from the start on Linzer Straße through Marchtrenk: north along Bahnhofstraße, past the Gourmetfein and Starlim corners, east along Lessingstraße, a short turnaround into Stifterstraße and back out, south down Eichenstraße and finally through the roundabout onto Linzer Straße to the finish.

Ten laps mean you take every corner ten times and the Stifterstraße turnaround ten times as well. The course is therefore less a route than a rhythm: start and finish share a point, and by the race information lap counting is the participants' own responsibility.

The ground is flat. Across the full sixteen kilometres the profile stays inside a band of about two metres; any measured climbing is DEM noise rather than a real undulation. The relay's exchange zone sits at point 5 on Linzer Straße.

Pacing Strategy

Sixteen kilometres on a mile circuit is a patience race. The commonest error is setting your pace by the opening laps, which always feel too easy on a short flat course. Deliberately make the first lap the slowest of the day.

Lap splits are a precise tool here because every lap is exactly the same length. Hold them steady through the first six; only from lap seven do you decide whether there is more.

The trap is the Stifterstraße turnaround. Once it costs little, ten times it accumulates, especially if you leave it with a surge each time. Run it evenly and keep the acceleration gentle. The race is decided between laps seven and nine, when the sameness of the circuit weighs heaviest.

Training plan for Stadtgrandprix Marchtrenk: 12-week build

For an age group athlete ten miles takes roughly 65 to 100 minutes. It is a long effort just below threshold, where aerobic base sets the ceiling rather than top speed.

In character the course is unusually uniform: no climb, no change of surface, the same four corners and the same turnaround ten times. That makes it fast but demands mental structure, since there is no change of scenery against which to measure progress.

Laps seven to nine decide the race, revealing whether the first six were judged correctly.

Long tempo runs of 40 to 70 minutes just under threshold therefore matter more than short intervals, complemented by a weekly long run for the base. To rehearse the course, run tempo blocks on a short circuit: the real skill is holding one pace across ten identical laps without lifting it out of boredom.
