The course climbs straight out of Mountain Run Lake Park: the first kilometre after the exit rises at about 4 percent with short pitches near 10 percent, and the organiser advises gearing appropriately for the first turn out of the park. Then comes the loop over well-paved, low-traffic country roads such as Lakemont, Merrimac, Reva, Norman, Hudson Mill, Whippoorwill and Griffinsburg Road. At Mile 11.9 you turn right onto Norman Road for the second loop, and at Mile 20.8 you go straight there towards the finish. The two courses merge where the Sprint riders are at Mile 4 and you are at Mile 13.\n\nThe climbing does not come in long hills but in clusters of short ramps of 300 to 600 m at about 5 percent with pitches above 8 percent; the clearest cluster sits between km 16 and 19 and returns on the second loop between km 29 and 32. By our measurement it adds up to about 450 m of climbing; the organiser quotes 1,060 feet.\n\nThe roads stay open to traffic, with police controlling the intersections.
