Ab der zweiten Runde gibt es an der Brücke in Vroenhoven Bidons und Gels.","The leg starts and ends at the transition beside the Kanaalbar on the Kanaaldijkstraat and follows the Albertkanaal towards Vroenhoven. Each lap changes bank twice, so the course alternates between the two sides of the canal before passing transition again. Four laps of 25.7 kilometres give a measured 102.7 kilometres against the 100 advertised.\n\nThe terrain is Limburg canal country on the edge of the Haspengouw: dyke roads, long straight sections between fields and woodland, bridge ramps as the only interruption. The elevation band runs from 57 to 85 metres, and the Kanaalbar stays the pivot of the whole day, because swim, bike and run all pass it. Spectators gather at the Hoefaertweg bridge, where they see you twice a lap. Mid-May in Limburg means mild weather, but also open country with no shelter.\n\nWhat makes the leg hard is not the profile but the rulebook and the repetition. It is ridden non-drafting, with a 15-metre draft zone, eight motorcycle referees and six fixed spotters along the route; time-trial bikes, clip-on extensions and disc wheels are allowed. The total comes to 270 metres of climbing, spread over four passes of the same half-kilometre ramp at 4.6 percent average and 7.3 percent at its steepest. From there it runs about 1.7 kilometres north-west to the turnaround and back down the same line. You cover that lap three times, so you pass transition six times.\n\nThe surface is asphalt throughout; the path belongs to the canal authority and is closed to general traffic, so you run on a smooth, straight, car-free line. The elevation band of the entire course measures about a metre and a half. Water on one side, the embankment on the other and behind it the Stevoorden-Hoefaert and Munsterbos nature reserves: there is no bend, no junction and not a metre of shade.\n\nThat bareness is the character of the leg. Because every lap passes the Kanaalbar you run through the same crowd six times, and because the turnaround is identical each lap you know to the metre what is still to come. In mid-May, on a sunny midday, that can be a very open and very bright stretch.","2027-05-16",111000,281,"FIXED_DISTANCE",{"de":255,"en":256},"Der iLumen Bilzen 111 Triathlon ist ein Rennen mit einer Distanz, die es sonst kaum gibt: ein Kilometer Schwimmen im Albertkanaal, 100 Kilometer Rad, 10 Kilometer Lauf. The iLumen Bilzen 111 Triathlon is a race over a distance almost nobody else offers: one kilometre of swimming in the Albertkanaal, 100 kilometres of bike, 10 kilometres of run. All of it happens in the same place, at the Kanaalbar near Bilzen, and all of it is flat. That makes the day predictable and unforgiving at the same time, because there is nowhere in the terrain to hide.",{"de":258,"en":259},"Der Tag beginnt im Albertkanaal. The day starts in the Albertkanaal. It is a rolling start, three or four athletes at a time jumping in from a low edge; there is no warm-up swim. The kilometre runs out and back, and the way then leads across the Kanaaldijkstraat straight into the day's single transition area, which serves as both T1 and T2.\n\nOn the bike come four laps of a good 25 kilometres along the canal to Vroenhoven and back, non-drafting, with a feed at the bridge from the second lap on. The run is then three out-and-back laps of 3.35 kilometres on the towpath, again right at the water. Because every lap of every discipline passes the Kanaalbar, you see the same spot roughly a dozen times over the day.\n\nThat is the character of the race: no city circuit, no mountain backdrop, but a canal in the Limburg borderland between Bilzen and the Meuse, with dyke roads, nature reserves on the bank and a bar-terrace crowd looking straight into transition. The field is capped at 600 places, the cut-offs are 35 minutes for the swim, four hours to the end of the bike and 5:30 at the finish. Wetsuits are compulsory at 16 degrees water temperature and below, and forbidden at 23 and above.",{"de":261,"en":262},"Die Rechnung dieses Rennens ist ungewöhnlich einfach, und genau darin liegt das Risiko. The arithmetic of this race is unusually simple, and that is precisely the risk. The swim is short enough to overcook without paying for it at once, and the bike is fast enough that every mistake only becomes visible on the towpath. So swim under control: the rolling start removes the scrum, which means there is no reason to sprint the first half.\n\nThe day is decided in the second half of the bike. One hundred flat kilometres without drafting invite you to use speed as the yardstick; ride the third lap as confirmation and you will run the third run lap on emergency power. Set your bike effort deliberately below what feels easy on this course, and plan your fuelling from the second lap on, because there is none before it.\n\nThe run is the reckoning. Three identical out-and-back laps by the water give you not one reason to change pace, and no shade. Plan the first lap as the slowest, take something to drink at every pass, and expect the turnaround to feel further away the third time than the first.",{"de":264,"en":265},"Für die 111 Kilometer solltest du je nach Niveau mit knapp vier bis fünfeinhalb Stunden rechnen; das offizielle Limit liegt bei 5:30, mit 35 Minuten fürs Schwimmen und vier Stunden bis zum Ende der Radstrecke. For the 111 kilometres, reckon on just under four to five and a half hours depending on level; the official limit is 5:30, with 35 minutes for the swim and four hours to the end of the bike. The effort is unusually uniform across the day, a long aerobic one without the anaerobic spikes a hilly race imposes.\n\nThe distance is the real peculiarity. At 100 kilometres of bike it sits well above the Olympic distance and noticeably below the middle distance, and at 10 kilometres the run is short enough to feel fast and long enough for a bike mistake to ruin it. Athletes coming from short course underestimate the time in the saddle; those coming from the middle distance underestimate how hard this one is ridden.\n\nPreparation should emphasise two things. First, long steady bike sessions in race position, two to three hours on the bars on flat open roads, because nothing on this course lifts you out of it. Second, brick runs: 20 to 40 minutes straight off the long ride, run on flat ground and deliberately evenly, because that is exactly what race day asks for. Open-water practice in a canal belongs in the plan too, since dark, narrow water demands sighting without a clear view and the jump from the edge is worth rehearsing.\n\nOn conditions: in mid-May the canal water can still be cold, so a wetsuit decision and a practised exit belong in the plan. On land, open Limburg canal country mostly means wind on the bike and unshaded sun on the towpath.
