For its ten-year anniversary the headline race of the Jurassic Extinction / Jurassic Coast 100 is the full line: 105 miles from South Haven Point near Poole to Exmouth, following the South West Coast Path throughout. Around 4,700 metres of climbing add up without a single mountain, purely from dropping to sea level and regaining the cliffs, and your preparation has to include a whole night on your feet.",{"de":211,"en":212},"Die Route ist eine reine Punkt-zu-Punkt-Linie ohne Schleife: Start an South Haven Point, Ziel in Exmouth, und der Weg weist sich selbst, denn du folgst den Markierungen des Küstenpfads und, wo er verlegt ist, den temporären Umleitungsschildern. The route is a pure point-to-point line with no loop: it starts at South Haven Point, ends in Exmouth, and largely guides itself, since you follow the Coast Path markers and, where the path has moved, the temporary diversion signs. The terrain is exposed coastline with cliff edges that demand care, and livestock along the way.\n\nThe first sharp block sits between kilometres 36 and 51, where climbs of 120 to 160 metres come one after another. Beyond Weymouth comes its counterpart: until around kilometre 100 the path stays close to sea level for long stretches, with only a few hills.\n\nThen the second half of the coast opens with longer climbs, including 183 metres in one go at kilometre 106. The course keeps its hardest section for the end: between kilometres 136 and 149 ramps of roughly 15 to 18 percent stand in the way, before the path drops towards Exmouth over one last hill.",{"de":214,"en":215},"Das Limit von 38 Stunden reicht über eine komplette Nacht bis in den zweiten Abend, deshalb geht es weniger um Tempo als um Verteilung. Wer sich von dessen Tempo mitziehen lässt, bezahlt dafür genau dort, wo die Rampen beginnen.","The 38-hour limit runs through a complete night and into the second evening, so the question is distribution far more than speed. Steep climbing and steep descending together make up almost a quarter of the course. Treat those sections on the first morning the way you will still need to handle them on day two: walk the climbs, ration the descents.\n\nThe Extinction is decided between kilometres 136 and 149. The steepest ramps of the race meet legs that have already covered more than 130 kilometres, and if you can only stop and stand here, you lose hours rather than minutes.\n\nThe trap is the quiet middle. After the block before Weymouth the flat kilometres feel like gifts, and that evening the rested 100 km field joins the same path at Nothe Fort. Get pulled along by their pace and you pay for it exactly where the ramps begin.",{"de":217,"en":218},"Altersklassenläufer sind hier etwa 28 bis 37 Stunden unterwegs. That is a continuous aerobic effort in which walking the climbs is the plan, not a defeat. Hard spikes come only on the short steep ramps, but their sheer number turns the coast into a strength question: across the full length you collect almost 30 metres of climbing per kilometre without ever getting high.\n\nThe core of your preparation is long weekends with two runs back to back, the second one hilly and on tired legs. That rehearses what the last 30 kilometres ask for: hiking a steep climb evenly and breaking back into a run straight afterwards. Add hill repeats on very steep slopes and deliberately practised descents, because the downhill kilometres wear out your quads long before the finish is within reach.\n\nSchedule at least one session through the night so you learn how eating, pace and concentration behave without sleep. Over this duration your fuelling also has to be tested, specifically in the late hours of a session when your stomach gets choosier.\n\nConditions in early June are those of an exposed coast: train somewhere you have to read waymarks, and build the habit of staying alert to cliff edges, livestock and diversions even when exhausted. That attention is what fades first once the second day is under The appeal of this stage is that it opens gently and puts its hardest hills in the second half.",{"de":377,"en":378},"Vom Start in South Haven Point bei Poole geht es auf den South West Coast Path, und die erste Stunde verläuft sehr flach, fast auf Meereshöhe. From the start at South Haven Point near Poole you join the South West Coast Path, and the first hour is very flat, almost at sea level. A lone hill climbs to just over 100 metres, after which the path stays low until beyond the 20 km mark. Navigation is handled by the Coast Path markers, backed by temporary signs where the route is diverted. The coastline is exposed, the cliff edges demand care, and livestock may be standing on the path.\n\nAbout a third of the way in the climbs turn serious, and the core comes after halfway: over roughly 15 kilometres one ramp follows another, the steepest holding more than 15 percent for a full kilometre. Each time the path drops back down, so you never get to keep the height.\n\nAfter that the course runs out. The last ten kilometres or so stay close to the sea with one small hill, and it ends at Nothe Fort in Weymouth without another real test.",{"de":380,"en":381},"Die 70 Kilometer sind ein Rennen mit Spätzündung. Das Limit von 14 Stunden lässt dafür Spielraum, wenn du im flachen Teil nichts verschenkt hast.","The 70 km is a race with a delayed fuse. The flat opening third invites you to run, and you should, as long as your breathing stays easy: nothing gets decided here, you can only spoil your afternoon.\n\nThe race-deciding section is the block beyond halfway. Its ramps are too steep to run, so hike them briskly and use the stretches between them to eat and drink. The real work is on the descents: let every one of them go and you have no quads left for the last climb.\n\nThe trap is the shared start. Around you are people with 105 miles ahead of them, and the quicker 70 km runners are pulling away too. Take your cue from neither. The goal is still being able to run after the last ramp, because the flat finish only rewards those with something left. The 14-hour limit gives you room for that, provided you wasted nothing on the flat.",{"de":383,"en":384},"Rechne als Altersklassenläufer mit etwa 9 bis 13 Stunden. As an age-group runner, expect roughly 9 to 13 hours. Much of that is calm aerobic running, interrupted by short, very forceful climbs that only cluster once you have been out for a long time. That late change shapes the effort more than the total of almost 2,000 metres of climbing.\n\nSo put the hills at the end of your long runs. Start flat and easy, then add a series of steep climbs after three or four hours instead of spreading the vertical evenly. That mirrors the coast between South Haven and Weymouth, and it shows you how your legs react when the first ramp arrives after a long, flat morning.\n\nDescending matters just as much. Around an eighth of the course drops steeply, and on race day those impacts land on tired legs. Practise controlled downhill running at the end of longer sessions and follow it with flat jogging, so you can find a running rhythm again after the last hill.\n\nFor an exposed coast in early June, train with the pack and food you plan to carry on race day, and practise following waymarks on paths you do not know. The evening start shifts everything you know about race planning. At kilometre zero you have already been awake for a whole day, and the flat first 35 kilometres are the hours in which you feel fresh without being so. Run them clearly below the sense that you could comfortably go faster.\n\nThis is exactly where the trap sits: easy path, evening adrenaline, an excited field. Build a nice pace here and you reach the climbs from kilometre 40 on an empty tank, with 60 kilometres still open. There is little time to gain on this stretch and a great deal to lose.\n\nThe decisive section is between kilometres 70 and 83, which most runners reach in the new day. Its ramps are the steepest of the course, and you hike them after a night without sleep. Save your legs for it on the descents before. The 25-hour limit is enough if you keep moving there and gets tight if you stall.",{"de":534,"en":535},"Altersklassenläufer brauchen hier etwa 13 bis 22 Stunden. The first third is steady aerobic running, and after that the effort turns into a permanent alternation of steep hiking and controlled descending. Running through a whole night after already spending a day awake is the distinctive feature of this course, and what you most need to prepare for.\n\nSo build in several long evening sessions that only end after dark, and at least one that begins after a normal working day and lasts into the early hours. You learn when your low point arrives, what you can still eat at that moment and how following waymarks feels in the dark.\n\nThe second focus is strength at the end: the steepest ramps arrive after 70 kilometres, so in training they have to come late as well. Long runs with steep hills in the final third, plus repeats on slopes above 15 percent, get you there. Do not neglect descending, since more than a third of the kilometres run downhill.\n\nFlat kilometres also take practice: in test runs, hold a deliberately calm pace for three to four hours before the first hill arrives. night.",{"raceName":537,"kind":17,"hasTrack":18,"composedLegs":19,"startDate":538,"leg":19,"legGroup":19,"distanceInMeters":539,"elevationGainInMeters":540,"format":23,"profile":541,"intro":686,"description":689,"pacing":692,"training":695},"Jurassic 50-Kilometer-Lauf beim Jurassic Extinction / Jurassic Coast 100 verzichtet auf jeden Anlauf: Hinter Lyme Regis geht es schon nach kurzer Zeit bergauf, und bis Exmouth bleibt das der Rhythmus. Unterwegs weisen Wegmarken und temporäre Schilder die Richtung.","The race starts on the morning of the second day in Lyme Regis and follows the South West Coast Path to Exmouth. After just one and a half kilometres the first climb reaches almost 100 metres, and the first 13 kilometres are a run of waves that only ends at a low point close to the sea. Here you are on the same path as the long-course runners who have been out since the previous day.\n\nThen comes the main part. Between kilometres 17 and 32 the course climbs again and again. The two sharpest ramps come at kilometres 25 and 27, holding around 18 percent for a little over 700 metres. Each time the height is given back, and the block ends with a drop to sea level and another 150 metres straight back up. This is the exposed cliff coast at its densest: the edges demand attention, and livestock may be on the path.\n\nThe finale allows a flat interlude up to about kilometre 42. One last hill then rises to almost 80 metres, and only after that does the path run out into Exmouth. Because the climbing comes early and often, there is no phase where you can build speed. Only about a fifth of the course is flat, and almost 30 percent is steep. So spread your strength by sections rather than by kilometres: use the first hour to settle into the rhythm of walking the climbs and running the rest lightly.\n\nThe race is decided between kilometres 25 and 32. Three climbs totalling around 400 metres arrive in quick succession, separated by steep descents. Arrive without having emptied your quads on the early waves and you can gain a lot of time here.\n\nThe trap is the flat section after kilometre 34. After that block it feels like relief and tempts you to push too soon. Yet a hill still stands in the way at kilometre 43, and after everything before it, it feels far longer than it is. Run the interlude calmly, eat something and save your last speed for the kilometres beyond that hill.",{"de":696,"en":697},"Plane als Altersklassenläufer etwa 7 bis 12 Stunden ein. The effort is aerobic but anything but steady: hiking steep slopes, jogging along the tops and braking on descents constantly take turns. What makes the course so demanding is less the height than the pace of the changes, since hardly any section leaves your muscles alone for long.\n\nYour most important session is the long hill run on the most rolling ground you can find, where the load repeats with similar density. Do not just collect vertical: seek short, steep climbs in series, three or four ramps of a few hundred metres hiked one straight after another in the final third of the run. That targets the block from kilometre 25, where the ramps reach around 18 percent.\n\nWith around 15 percent of the course dropping steeply, eccentric work belongs firmly in the plan: downhill running in your sessions, plus strength work for quads and hips. Also practise breaking straight back into a run after a descent instead of standing to catch your breath.\n\nThe last 15 kilometres require flat running on tired legs, so add half an hour of easy level pace to the end of long hill runs. This race asks for strong legs early rather than ultra endurance, and for enough left in reserve to actually run the quieter remainder.",{"de":830,"en":831},"Der Start in Beer liegt am Vormittag des zweiten Tags, als letzter des ganzen Wochenendes. The start in Beer falls on the morning of the second day, the last of the whole weekend. The South West Coast Path rises at once, and the first climb is under way after barely 300 metres. From there the ups and downs follow a clear pattern to kilometre 15: up to 130 to 160 metres, far back down and straight up again. The two sharpest ramps come at kilometres 8 and 11, both between 17 and 19 percent and around 700 metres long.\n\nThen the coast changes character. Between kilometres 18 and 25 the path stays low and almost levels out, before two moderate climbs reach just over 100 metres and a last wave at kilometre 29 touches about 60 metres. The closing kilometres then run out into Exmouth.\n\nYou share the path with runners on the longer courses, who arrive at this finale after a far longer journey. The cliffs are exposed, the edges demand care, livestock is part of the picture, and Coast Path markers plus temporary signs guide you along.",{"de":833,"en":834},"Das Profil steht auf dem Kopf: Die harte Arbeit liegt am Anfang, die Erholung am Ende. The course runs back to front: the hard work comes first, the recovery last. That tempts you to storm the opening ramps while rested. Walk them consistently from the start instead, and keep your effort under control for the first 15 kilometres even if you feel fresh. Almost a third of the distance is steep, in both directions.\n\nThe race is still decided further on. Get through the opening with something in reserve and from kilometre 18 you can truly run, gaining time on the quiet sections that the hills never offered. Spend it all early and you can only trudge there.\n\nThe second trap is the last descent before kilometre 14, where you can pick up plenty of speed only to land at the foot of the longest climb's 150 metres. Run it under control and take the climb at a calm hiking pace. The twelve-hour limit is generous; any pressure comes from you.",{"de":836,"en":837},"Bis Exmouth vergehen für Altersklassenläufer etwa 4 bis 8 Stunden. Da du erst am Vormittag startest, teste deine Verpflegung für einen späten Beginn.","From Beer to Exmouth, age-group runners take roughly 4 to 8 hours. In the first half especially, the effort alternates between short, intense climbs and steep descents, making it far spikier than the long courses. After that comes a long aerobic section that demands running fitness, not merely hiking strength.\n\nThe key preparation is hill strength: repeats of a few minutes on very steep slopes, hiked briskly and run down under control. More than 30 metres of climbing per kilometre means your quads work in both directions, and around a sixth of this course drops steeply.\n\nThe second building block mirrors the race itself: long sessions with the hills first and flat running last. Open with a series of climbs, then carry on for two hours over level ground. That trains exactly what the course demands, finding an even stride again after hard kilometres.\n\nFor the open cliffs in June you need to feel secure on the terrain: run on trails where you can, and practise looking up for waymarks and easing off near livestock even when tired.
