The rest is flat lakeshore running along Lake Michigan - which means the whole thing comes down to evenness and to two long bridge ramps.",{"de":142,"en":143},"Gestartet wird um 7:00 Uhr an der Südseite des Baird Center an der Wisconsin Avenue, mitten in der Innenstadt, gemeinsam mit dem Halbmarathon. The gun goes at 07:00 on the south side of the Baird Center on Wisconsin Avenue, in the middle of downtown, together with the half marathon. The opening kilometres head north through the East Side - Prospect Avenue, Lafayette Place, Terrace Avenue, Wahl Avenue - and up onto the bluff into Lake Park, the high point of the course. From there Lincoln Memorial Drive takes the route back south right along the water.\n\nAt about mile 7.5 comes the Hoan Bridge. It is the only real gradient of the day: a long, steady ramp up onto the deck and an equally long run off the far side, with the view over the lake and the skyline the race is known for. After it come the Bay View blocks - Oklahoma, Kinnickinnic, Morgan, Illinois, Rhode Island, Superior - and the long southern leg through St. Francis and Cudahy on South Lake Drive as far as College Avenue. On the way back the Hoan is crossed a second time before Iron Street, Russell Avenue and Carferry Drive lead to the finish at Urban Park.\n\nBridge aside, this is a flat course: 71 per cent of it sits in the flat gradient band, the whole race adds up to 187 metres of ascent, and more than 40 per cent of the route runs directly along Lake Michigan. The marathon is staged by the Badgerland Striders running club under a 'For Runners, By Runners' banner; 2026 is the 44th edition and doubles as the Wisconsin RRCA Marathon Championship, with the field capped at 2,500.",{"de":145,"en":146},"Auf 71 Prozent flacher Strecke gibt es kein Gelände, das das Tempo für dich regelt. On a course that is 71 per cent flat, the terrain does not regulate your pace for you. The race's only structure is the two Hoan crossings at roughly mile 7.5 and mile 23.5 - and they sit about as awkwardly as they could: the first while you still feel fresh, the second when there is nothing left.\n\nThe first ramp is the trap. It comes early, it is plainly visible, and the pull of the field carries you up it; heart rate then does not drop straight back down. Take it at race pace rather than race effort and you pay for it not on the bridge but thirty kilometres later at the very same place. The checkpoint helps you calibrate: you must be on the bridge by 09:15, which is an 18-minute mile - plenty of room for anybody not overcooking it.\n\nThe race is decided between the Cudahy turnaround and the second Hoan approach. That stretch runs on open lakeshore, usually into wind, and it is the most monotonous part of the course. Fall apart alone there and you lose more time than on any ramp. Then the bridge comes round again at mile 23.5, with a hard 13:00 cutoff at its south end - which is where it becomes clear how honestly the first ten miles were run.",{"de":148,"en":149},"Für ambitionierte Altersklassenläuferinnen und -läufer dauert der Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon etwa drei bis fünf Stunden; das Limit liegt bei 6,5 Stunden, mit Zwischenkontrollen auf der Hoan Bridge um 9:15 Uhr und an ihrem Südende um 13:00 Uhr. For a competitive age-group runner this is a three to five hour effort; the limit is 6.5 hours, with intermediate checks on the Hoan Bridge at 09:15 and at its south end at 13:00. The demand is a steady aerobic one with two longer, moderate rises - no anaerobic spikes, no technical sections, no change of surface.\n\nThe central preparation theme is therefore marathon pace held for a long time. Long runs with extended blocks at goal pace fit the demand better than short fast intervals. And because the course is one big loop with a turnaround, so you see the same roads twice, it is worth deliberately running out-and-back routes in training rather than only circuits.\n\nThe decisive parts are the second bridge ramp and the twenty kilometres before it. For the ramp, one to two minute moderate climbs at marathon effort are enough, placed at the end of long runs rather than the start - the point is not the gradient but picking the pace back up at the top on tired legs. The time pressure there is real: miss the south end of the bridge and you are taken off the course, because the Hoan is not a pedestrian structure and has to reopen to traffic.\n\nThe lake sets the conditions. In early October the shoreline is markedly cooler than the city, and the long southern leg on South Lake Drive is completely exposed to wind off the water. A few long sessions into a headwind and on cold mornings are the most useful preparation, together with a clothing choice that covers a start in single-figure temperatures and a finish in midday sun.",{"raceName":151,"kind":16,"hasTrack":17,"composedLegs":18,"startDate":19,"leg":18,"legGroup":18,"distanceInMeters":152,"elevationGainInMeters":153,"format":22,"profile":154,"intro":249,"description":252,"pacing":255,"training":258},"Milwaukee Lakefront Half Marathon",21097,73,{"classification":24,"routeShape":155,"totalAscentM":153,"totalDescentM":156,"netElevationM":27,"vertPerKm":157,"climbs":158,"remainingVertM":30,"gradientDistribution":159,"downsampledProfile":162,"trackPolyline":248},"point_to_point",80,3.4,[],{"flatPct":156,"upPct":160,"downPct":161,"steepUpPct":30,"steepDownPct":30},10.4,9.6,[163,164,166,169,171,174,176,179,182,184,186,188,190,192,194,196,198,200,202,204,207,210,212,214,216,218,220,222,224,226,228,230,232,234,236,238,240,242,244,246],{"km":30,"elevM":37},{"km":165,"elevM":52},0.55,{"km":167,"elevM":168},1.08,188,{"km":170,"elevM":21},1.63,{"km":172,"elevM":173},2.17,202,{"km":175,"elevM":83},2.7,{"km":177,"elevM":178},3.25,199,{"km":180,"elevM":181},3.8,195,{"km":183,"elevM":178},4.35,{"km":185,"elevM":93},4.88,{"km":187,"elevM":52},5.43,{"km":189,"elevM":74},5.98,{"km":191,"elevM":52},6.5,{"km":193,"elevM":52},7.05,{"km":195,"elevM":57},7.6,{"km":197,"elevM":52},8.13,{"km":199,"elevM":52},8.68,{"km":201,"elevM":52},9.23,{"km":203,"elevM":52},9.75,{"km":205,"elevM":206},10.3,183,{"km":208,"elevM":209},10.85,178,{"km":211,"elevM":52},11.4,{"km":213,"elevM":52},11.93,{"km":215,"elevM":52},12.48,{"km":217,"elevM":209},13.03,{"km":219,"elevM":57},13.55,{"km":221,"elevM":57},14.1,{"km":223,"elevM":57},14.65,{"km":225,"elevM":57},15.18,{"km":227,"elevM":57},15.73,{"km":229,"elevM":74},16.27,{"km":231,"elevM":57},16.8,{"km":233,"elevM":57},17.35,{"km":235,"elevM":57},17.9,{"km":237,"elevM":209},18.45,{"km":239,"elevM":57},18.98,{"km":241,"elevM":57},19.52,{"km":243,"elevM":52},20.08,{"km":245,"elevM":52},20.6,{"km":247,"elevM":57},21.15,"s_ueGdtrwOFws@`@uDuBw{@s@s@eIeAuG\\wBm@uC{CoDa@}BcAyzAovAU[B}OFwBf@eBa@qA^wBuAqAzBtBBi@eAqBPk@h@GtClD|ABt@gAlAaGuNkHyEkDwP{UvPzUxEjDlLlFvBnBbR~W`CdGbA`S|ApGnKlPhTrSbUlPzBfCdOhG~A\\`JK~PzG~IxBlGFrDrAaC}AwIc@_O}EhApk@|@gCAmP[lEA`@fAuKnBkEdDgCzRGp_AaN|tAmd@lIw@fGFgGGmIv@}tAld@q_A`N{RFeDfCoBjEeArJA`@\\oF@lP}@fCeAsi@qDmB`@}F",{"de":250,"en":251},"Der Milwaukee Lakefront Half Marathon läuft die ersten zehn Meilen des Marathons mit - inklusive der Hoan Bridge - und biegt dann im Hafenkorridor um. Rather than carrying on to Bay View and Cudahy as the marathon does, the half turns in the harbour corridor and comes back to the finish at Urban Park on East Michigan Street.\n\nThe result is a very flat course: 80 per cent of it sits in the flat band, it adds up to 73 metres of ascent, and the elevation stays between 178 and 202 metres. The shared start with the marathon shapes the opening kilometres. Around you are people who will be out there for another thirty kilometres and who set off accordingly - in that mix half-marathon pace feels far too fast in the first mile, and it is not. The watch is the more honest adviser here than the company.\n\nThe race has exactly one structural feature: the Hoan Bridge at mile 7.5. It sits almost exactly where a half marathon gets hard anyway, and its ramp is long enough to open a real oxygen debt at race pace. Take it at the same pace as the flat before it and you arrive at the top with a heart rate that will not come down again before the finish. Hold effort, give up pace, and pick the pace straight back up at the top.\n\nThe race is decided over the last four kilometres between the harbour turnaround and Urban Park. It is flat there, open and usually windy, with no terrain left to distract you. Take the bridge under control and there is time to be gained here; run up it with the field and all that is left is damage limitation.",{"de":259,"en":260},"Für die meisten Altersklassenläuferinnen und -läufer liegt die Belastungsdauer zwischen etwa 1:25 und 2:30 Stunden; formal gilt dasselbe Limit von 6,5 Stunden wie beim Marathon, und auch der Kontrollpunkt auf der Brücke um 9:15 Uhr gilt für beide Rennen. For most age-group runners this is a 1:25 to 2:30 effort; formally the same 6.5-hour limit as the marathon applies, and the 09:15 bridge checkpoint covers both races. The demand is a sustained near-threshold one with exactly one interruption: the bridge ramp.\n\nThe training emphasis is therefore threshold work - intervals of six to twelve minutes just inside race effort and tempo runs of 20 to 40 minutes. On a course that is 80 per cent flat, the ability to hold a pace for a long time without drifting is the direct performance factor.\n\nOn top of that sits the one specific session this race asks for: a moderate one to two minute rise at race pace followed immediately by more race pace rather than a recovery jog. That is exactly what the Hoan Bridge does, and it is exactly where most runners come undone - not on the ramp itself but in the two kilometres after it.\n\nFor conditions the lake is what matters. In early October the start by the water is often in single figures while the finish is considerably milder, and both the Lincoln Memorial Drive shoreline and the harbour corridor are unsheltered. Long sessions into a headwind, a clothing plan settled early, and a look at the bridge beforehand - it is closed to pedestrians on other days, so you cannot run it in advance - belong in the preparation.",{"raceName":262,"kind":16,"hasTrack":17,"composedLegs":18,"startDate":263,"leg":18,"legGroup":18,"distanceInMeters":264,"elevationGainInMeters":56,"format":22,"profile":265,"intro":351,"description":354,"pacing":357,"training":360},"Milwaukee Lakefront 5K Run/Walk","2026-10-03",5000,{"classification":24,"routeShape":25,"totalAscentM":56,"totalDescentM":56,"netElevationM":30,"vertPerKm":266,"climbs":267,"remainingVertM":30,"gradientDistribution":268,"downsampledProfile":271,"trackPolyline":350},1.5,[],{"flatPct":269,"upPct":270,"downPct":270,"steepUpPct":30,"steepDownPct":30},95.1,2.5,[272,273,275,277,279,281,283,285,287,289,291,293,295,297,299,301,303,305,307,309,311,313,315,317,319,321,322,324,326,328,330,332,334,336,338,340,342,344,346,348],{"km":30,"elevM":57},{"km":274,"elevM":57},0.13,{"km":276,"elevM":52},0.25,{"km":278,"elevM":52},0.4,{"km":280,"elevM":52},0.53,{"km":282,"elevM":52},0.65,{"km":284,"elevM":52},0.78,{"km":286,"elevM":57},0.9,{"km":288,"elevM":52},1.05,{"km":290,"elevM":52},1.18,{"km":292,"elevM":52},1.3,{"km":294,"elevM":52},1.43,{"km":296,"elevM":57},1.55,{"km":298,"elevM":209},1.7,{"km":300,"elevM":209},1.83,{"km":302,"elevM":209},1.95,{"km":304,"elevM":57},2.08,{"km":306,"elevM":57},2.2,{"km":308,"elevM":57},2.35,{"km":310,"elevM":209},2.48,{"km":312,"elevM":209},2.6,{"km":314,"elevM":57},2.73,{"km":316,"elevM":57},2.88,{"km":318,"elevM":57},3,{"km":320,"elevM":57},3.13,{"km":177,"elevM":209},{"km":323,"elevM":209},3.38,{"km":325,"elevM":57},3.53,{"km":327,"elevM":52},3.65,{"km":329,"elevM":52},3.78,{"km":331,"elevM":52},3.9,{"km":333,"elevM":52},4.03,{"km":335,"elevM":57},4.18,{"km":337,"elevM":52},4.3,{"km":339,"elevM":52},4.43,{"km":341,"elevM":52},4.55,{"km":343,"elevM":57},4.68,{"km":345,"elevM":52},4.83,{"km":347,"elevM":57},4.95,{"km":349,"elevM":57},5.08,"{vteG`onwOa@|FpDlBdAri@|@gCAmP]nFv@{IdAoDlCkDjCaA`QFrb@{Fsb@zFaQGkC`AmCjDeAnDw@zI\\oF@lP}@fCeAsi@qDmB`@}F",{"de":352,"en":353},"Der Milwaukee Lakefront 5K ist der einzige 5-Kilometer-Lauf, der über die Hoan Bridge führt. Walkers line up behind the runners, and strollers and well-behaved dogs are allowed.\n\nThe course is an out-and-back: from Urban Park up the north approach of the Hoan Bridge, the race's single water station up above the harbour mouth, then a turnaround and the same way home. There is no branch, no lap and virtually no gradient: 95 per cent of the course sits in the flat band, and the whole elevation profile moves within a two-metre range.\n\nWhat carries this race is not the profile but the place. The Hoan is a motorway bridge, closed to pedestrians every other day of the year, and the view from its approach over the harbour, the skyline and Lake Michigan is exactly the one people take on 42 kilometres for on Sunday. The finish brings a medal, snacks and the after-party with a DJ; run the Saturday 5K plus one Sunday race and the 'Own The Hoan' challenge adds a third medal.",{"de":358,"en":359},"Fünf Kilometer auf einer Strecke ohne Höhenunterschied sind eine reine Tempoaufgabe - aber die Wendepunktform verändert die Aufteilung gegenüber einer Runde deutlich. Wer oben schon am Limit ankommt, verwaltet nur noch; wer Reserve hat, läuft die zweite Hälfte deutlich schneller als die erste.","Five kilometres with no elevation change is a pure pace problem - but the out-and-back shape changes the split noticeably compared with a loop. The first half climbs steadily onto the bridge approach, the second comes back down; to run both halves in the same time you have to go out slower than it feels.\n\nThe trap is the start. With a 90-minute limit and a field mixing walkers, families and competitive runners on one line, the first kilometre is usually chaotic and too fast. If you want a time, plan that first kilometre deliberately as a sorting kilometre and only settle into race pace afterwards.\n\nThe race is decided at the turnaround up on the bridge. From there it is two and a half gently falling kilometres back to Urban Park - the stretch where a controlled outward leg pays off. Arrive at the top already at your limit and all that is left is holding on; arrive with something in reserve and the second half is markedly faster than the first.",{"de":361,"en":362},"Für die meisten Teilnehmenden dauert der 5K zwischen 18 und 45 Minuten; das Limit liegt bei 90 Minuten, und der Lauf ist ausdrücklich auch als Walking-Distanz ausgeschrieben. Wer den Lauf als Auftakt zum 'Own The Hoan'-Doppel nutzt, sollte ihn zudem als lockere Einheit einplanen - am Sonntag folgt ein Halbmarathon oder ein Marathon.","For most participants the 5K takes between 18 and 45 minutes; the limit is 90 minutes and the race is explicitly advertised as a walking distance too. The demand is correspondingly broad: for a competitive runner a short, above-threshold effort, for a walker a brisk stroll with a view.\n\nIf you are after a time, train what any 5K asks for: short intervals at race pace - say five to eight repetitions of 800 to 1,000 metres - plus a weekly tempo run. Because the course has neither gradient nor corners to recover on, speed endurance is the only lever here.\n\nOne feature is worth noting: the bridge approach barely registers on the elevation profile, but it rises gently and continuously for two and a half kilometres, and that is trainable. Long, very shallow climbs at 5K race pace reproduce this demand better than short steep repetitions.\n\nConditions are those of an October morning over water. On the bridge the wind is unobstructed, there is no shade and no shelter, and it is noticeably colder up top than at the start in the park. If you are using the race as the first half of the 'Own The Hoan' double, plan it as an easy effort - a half marathon or a marathon follows on Sunday.",[364],{"eventName":6,"eventDate":9,"eventHomepageUrl":11},[366,373,380,387,394,401],{"slug":367,"eventName":368,"proseName":369,"city":370,"country":8,"eventType":13,"eventDate":371,"distanceInMeters":20,"elevationGainInMeters":372,"classification":24},"chicago-marathon","Bank of America Chicago Marathon",{"de":368,"en":368},"Chicago","2026-10-11T00:00:00.000Z",46,{"slug":374,"eventName":375,"proseName":376,"city":377,"country":8,"eventType":13,"eventDate":378,"distanceInMeters":20,"elevationGainInMeters":379,"classification":24},"indianapolis-monumental-marathon","CNO Financial Indianapolis Monumental Marathon",{"de":375,"en":375},"Indianapolis","2026-11-07T00:00:00.000Z",103,{"slug":381,"eventName":382,"proseName":383,"city":384,"country":8,"eventType":13,"eventDate":385,"distanceInMeters":20,"elevationGainInMeters":386,"classification":24},"austin-marathon","Ascension Seton Austin Marathon",{"de":382,"en":382},"Austin","2027-02-14T00:00:00.000Z",316,{"slug":388,"eventName":389,"proseName":390,"city":391,"country":8,"eventType":13,"eventDate":392,"distanceInMeters":20,"elevationGainInMeters":393,"classification":24},"baystate-marathon","Hannaford Baystate Marathon",{"de":389,"en":389},"Lowell","2026-10-18T00:00:00.000Z",70,{"slug":395,"eventName":396,"proseName":397,"city":398,"country":8,"eventType":13,"eventDate":399,"distanceInMeters":20,"elevationGainInMeters":400,"classification":24},"boston-marathon","Boston Marathon presented by Bank of America",{"de":396,"en":396},"Boston","2027-04-19T00:00:00.000Z",238,{"slug":402,"eventName":403,"proseName":404,"city":405,"country":8,"eventType":13,"eventDate":406,"distanceInMeters":20,"elevationGainInMeters":37,"classification":24},"california-international-marathon","California International Marathon",{"de":403,"en":403},"Sacramento","2026-12-06T00:00:00.000Z",1789876593515]
