Weil du denselben Weg zurückläufst, kennst du jedes Stück bereits aus der Gegenrichtung und weißt, wie lang es noch ist.","Things get going at Western Nevada College in Carson City at just under 1,500 metres, and the direction is settled from the first step. Two short climbs take you to about 1,700 metres by kilometre 4, and after a brief easing the heart of the course begins. For a little over seven kilometres the trail rises steadily at around five percent, rarely any steeper. After a little over eleven kilometres you reach the turnaround at about 2,050 metres.\n\nThe running is on single-track and dirt roads through the alpine and sub-alpine forest of the Carson Spur in the Sierra Nevada. Of the weekend's courses, the 23K sees only the lower part of this terrain: where the ultra distances turn off and head steeply for the heights, it keeps to the gentler line.\n\nThe way back returns every metre of height. For about twelve kilometres the course falls with no long rises, levelling briefly only around kilometre 19 before the last drop to the college. Because you run back on the same trail, you already know each stretch from the other direction and how much of it remains.",{"de":185,"en":186},"Steile Passagen, die dich zum Gehen zwingen, gibt es hier kaum, und damit fehlt die eingebaute Bremse längerer Bergläufe. Bleib mit kurzen Schritten kontrolliert und gib erst nach dem Flachstück um Kilometer 19 frei.","Steep sections that force you to walk hardly exist here, so the built-in brake of longer mountain races is missing. You have to limit the pace yourself. The two short climbs before kilometre 4 are the test: if your breathing stays calm there, the start is right.\n\nThe race is decided on the seven kilometres before the turnaround. Five percent feels harmless for the first quarter of an hour, yet it becomes the longest effort of the day, in ever thinner air. Choose a rhythm you can hold to the very top without walking breaks, and go by your breathing rather than your watch: above 1,800 metres the same pace costs more than it did down at the college.\n\nThe trap sits just past the turnaround. The slope is gentle enough to simply let go, but opening up on the first kilometres down leaves you with heavy thighs for the final stretch. Stay controlled on short steps and only release once you are past the level section around kilometre 19.",{"de":188,"en":189},"Rechne mit etwa 2:45 bis 4:30 Stunden. The effort is aerobic throughout, with no hard spikes: one long, even phase uphill, then a second one that asks less of your heart and lungs than of your muscles.\n\nYour key session copies the climb: 45 to 60 minutes at a stretch in one rhythm uphill, on a moderate grade and running all the way. If you have no hill that long, string together climbs of ten to 15 minutes and run briskly back down between them, because that is part of the race too. A long run with around 600 metres of climbing shows you in advance whether your pace holds to the top.\n\nTwelve kilometres of falling trail load thighs and calves in a way no flat mile does. Over the weeks, work longer downhill sections into your runs, with short steps and a high cadence. Place them at the end of a long session now and then, so you run them on pre-tired legs as you will on the day.\n\nSingle-track and dirt roads also demand sure footing at speed, so regular running on uneven ground belongs firmly in the plan. Altitude plays a smaller part in the 23K than in the other distances of this July weekend, though it too goes above 2,000 metres. The big climb arrives when you feel freshest, and that is its danger. On the steepest four kilometres a brisk hike is faster and cheaper than running for most people. Run here to hold your place and you win a few minutes, then pay them back over the remaining 40 kilometres.\n\nOnce you are up, altitude moves your limit. The rolling middle between kilometres 16 and 33 looks easily runnable, yet your sustainable pace sits noticeably below what your legs offer. Stay deliberately under it, hike short rises early and eat regularly while your stomach still cooperates.\n\nThe race is decided on the descent after kilometre 33, but it is set up before that. With intact thighs, the long fall hands back big blocks of time. Without them it becomes the toughest part of the day, and on the last kilometres to the college nothing is left to rescue.",{"de":378,"en":379},"Für die 50K brauchst du etwa sieben bis zehneinhalb Stunden. The day opens with a hard strength phase, moves into hours of even, mostly aerobic work in thin air and ends as a muscular test. Peak output matters less here than the ability to keep moving calmly.\n\nThe first priority is steep hiking as a discipline of its own: sessions of 30 to 60 minutes on a steep slope or a heavily tilted treadmill, upright and breathing calmly. Strength work for calves and glutes fits alongside, because almost 900 metres in one go asks a lot of those muscles, and early in the day.\n\nThe second priority is running downhill on tired legs. Build your long runs so the climbing comes first and one to two hours of controlled descent close them out. A training day some weeks before the race with 1,000 metres or more in both directions comes closest to the last 20 kilometres.\n\nAbout half of the race lies above 2,400 metres in one unbroken stretch, which makes altitude a planning item of its own. A few long mountain days before the July date, or an earlier arrival, will do more for you here than extra volume in the valley. What you still have in your legs near kilometre 48 sets the rest of your day in the mountains above Carson City.",{"de":557,"en":558},"Der Beginn gehört dem Berg: Nach ruhigen ersten Kilometern ab dem Western Nevada College zieht die Strecke mit rund zwölf Prozent auf etwa 2.400 Meter hinauf. The opening belongs to the mountain: after quiet first kilometres from Western Nevada College the course pulls up at around twelve percent to about 2,400 metres. Soon after that you are already at the day's high point, a little above 2,700 metres. A long stretch on the upper floor of the Carson Spur in the Sierra Nevada follows, on single-track and dirt roads through alpine and sub-alpine forest, hardly dipping below 2,400 metres until kilometre 40.\n\nThen the course tips over and loses almost 600 metres by kilometre 48. This is the key place of the race: three and a half kilometres averaging 15 percent, steeper even than the first big climb. At the top the second part begins, high again, with further climbs of just over 200 metres up to a last crest near 2,680 metres.\n\nBy about kilometre 82 the climbing work is done. The closing stretch falls more than 1,000 metres to the college. It is the same descent the 50K ends on, except that here it comes after almost twice the distance.",{"de":560,"en":561},"Teile den Tag in drei Blöcke: ankommen bis Kilometer 40, überstehen bis Kilometer 60, ernten danach. The first climb demands consistent hiking, and the high stretch after it runs easier than it is. A marathon mindset is no help here, because the hardest part still lies ahead of you.\n\nThe real trap is the downhill from kilometre 40. It feels like a break, it is runnable, and after hours at altitude it invites you to win time back. Yet every metre you brake there with your thighs is missing right afterwards. Let it roll, eat and drink at the low point, and plan the wall as three and a half kilometres of hiking with no ambition at all.\n\nThe top decides whether the second half becomes a run or a march. Give pulse and stomach time past the crest before you start running again. If you can still trot near kilometre 82, the long descent is your reward instead of your punishment.",{"de":563,"en":564},"Je nach Form sind etwa 15 bis 22 Stunden realistisch. Lange Bergabläufe von 1.000 Höhenmetern runden die Vorbereitung ab, denn der Abstieg zum College wartet erst hinter Kilometer 80.","Depending on your fitness, about 15 to 22 hours is realistic. The effort is almost entirely aerobic, and the limits are muscle fatigue, fuelling and altitude. Almost a third of the course is also steep, meaning hiking pace or heavy braking.\n\nThe wall at kilometre 48 sets the direction: you have to be able to hike steeply when you have already been out for many hours. Deliberately place a steep climb of 400 to 500 metres at the end of your longest sessions, and repeat that over the weeks. Training weekends with two long days back to back reproduce this fatigue better than a single very long run, and they are easier to absorb.\n\nEating is a training discipline at this distance. Practise it regularly while hiking uphill, and also later on when appetite fades. There are aid stations along the course, but the plan for the sections between them has to be yours, and it has to be tested beforehand.\n\nThree quarters of the race lie above 2,300 metres, and the wall begins in the middle of that long stay. If you can, put your last big training block in the mountains in June rather than going up just before the start, and do your steep sessions there too. The 100 Mile is the longest course at the Tahoe Rim Trail Endurance Runs: around 5,400 metres of climbing on a route that takes the same steep wall twice in the mountains above Carson City. In the end speed counts for less than how much order your race still has after a night out there.",{"de":735,"en":736},"Der Auftakt ist derselbe wie auf den anderen langen Distanzen: vom Western Nevada College auf knapp 1.500 Metern hinauf auf rund 2.400 Meter. The opening matches the other long distances: from Western Nevada College at just under 1,500 metres up to around 2,400 metres. After that the course leaves the heights only for a few deep cuts. The first sits near kilometre 25 at about 2,200 metres. Two crests a little above 2,700 metres frame it, and you come close to that height several more times later on.\n\nThe heart of the 100 Mile is repetition. Near kilometre 65 the wall waits, three and a half kilometres long and averaging 15 percent. At kilometre 119 you stand at the same slope again, now with more than 100 kilometres in your legs. Climbs of about 200 metres line up between and after, and even where no big climb is due the course keeps going up and down.\n\nSo more than 100 kilometres pass at altitude, on single-track and dirt roads through the alpine and sub-alpine forest of the Carson Spur in the Sierra Nevada. Only after about 143 kilometres does the way down begin. It takes you through around 1,050 metres of descent to the college, where the race ends.",{"de":738,"en":739},"Über diese Distanz heißt Pacing vor allem Zurückhaltung. Läufst du jede dieser Steigungen, verbrauchst du still, was du an den großen Bergen gespart hast. Erst ab Kilometer 143 darfst du rechnen, denn dann hängt alles daran, ob die Oberschenkel den letzten langen Abstieg noch tragen.","Over this distance pacing is mostly restraint. At kilometre 33 you are already back on top, with four fifths of the race still ahead of you. Hike every real climb from the start, run the flat easily and treat the first 60 kilometres as the journey to the first wall.\n\nThe second meeting at kilometre 119 is the deciding point. Most people reach it with empty reserves, and the slope takes clearly longer than the first time. Plan it as a block with its own routine: eat at the bottom, check clothing and lamp, and keep walking for a while at the top. What you save on the first ascent 54 kilometres earlier decides how this moment looks.\n\nThe trap lies in the unremarkable stretches between. Between the big climbs the course rolls by 100 to 200 metres at a time, which looks harmless on its own. Run every one of those rises and you quietly spend what you saved on the big climbs. Only from kilometre 143 may you start doing sums, because by then everything depends on whether your thighs can still carry the last long descent.",{"de":741,"en":742},"Rechne mit etwa 28 bis 36 Stunden, also mindestens einer Nacht ohne Schlaf. The intensity is low, it just never stops, and what decides things is muscular durability, stomach, head and your routine for looking after yourself on the move.\n\nBuild your preparation around long blocks: several weeks in which long days follow each other directly, with 1,500 metres of climbing or more per day. Rehearse the second meeting with the wall by hiking another steep 500 metres at the end of such days. Pay no attention to speed; what counts is climbing cleanly when tired.\n\nThe night needs dress rehearsals of its own. Run at least once from dusk into the morning, on uneven ground and with the lamp and the food you plan to use in the race. Single-track in the dark takes more concentration than any climb. Practise what you do at aid stations and in what order, too, because wasted minutes add up fast here.\n\nAt this distance altitude is no matter of the first few hours; it stays with you through the night and the fatigue. A longer stay at a similar height before the July date is therefore your most important planning decision if you live lower down, and your climbing times will still be slower than at home. Strong thighs for around 5,400 metres of descent come from regular strength work and long downhill sections, which belong in the build from the start.",[744],{"eventName":6,"eventDate":9,"eventHomepageUrl":11},[746,754,763,771,779,788],{"slug":747,"eventName":748,"proseName":749,"city":751,"country":8,"eventType":13,"eventDate":752,"distanceInMeters":192,"elevationGainInMeters":753,"classification":25},"big-chief-50k","Big
