Newcastle MoRun: Course, Route Profile & Map
The Newcastle MoRun half marathon is four laps of Exhibition Park and the open Town Moor just north of the city centre, preceded by a short 1.1-kilometre opening loop. The course is flat, on paths and tarmac, and in late November often windy and cool.
Course & Elevation
Start and finish are at the event hub on the edge of Exhibition Park, off Claremont Road. According to the organiser's route file the half marathon first runs a small 1.1-kilometre loop and then the full 5-kilometre lap four times, the same lap the 5k and 10k use. The lap leaves the park northwards across the wide, treeless Town Moor and comes back, with only about 22 metres of climbing per lap.
The organiser describes the course as flat but warns of bumpy sections. Because the half marathon starts at 9:30 and the 5k and 10k at 10:00, the course fills with shorter-distance runners from the second lap on; runners with laps to go keep left before the finish, and keep right after their last lap.
Pacing Strategy
On a flat lapped course, even pacing is the key. Use the opening loop to settle in and find your rhythm on the first full lap. Headwind can bite on the open Town Moor; hold your effort rather than your pace there and win the time back with the wind behind you.

Build long runs up to about 18 kilometres and add tempo runs of 20 to 40 minutes at half-marathon pace. Sessions on repeated loops help you hold an even rhythm over four laps, and a few runs in wind and cold prepare you for November.
