Glasgow MoRun: Course, Route Profile & Map

The Glasgow MoRun half marathon opens with a short extra loop, then runs four laps of Glasgow Green. The flat circuit by the Clyde rewards one thing above all: running four near-identical laps at the same effort.

Course & Elevation

Start and finish are below Nelson's Column on Glasgow Green, with the event hub set up closer to the People's Palace. A roughly 1.1 kilometre opening loop is followed by four laps of just over five kilometres. The organiser describes the route as mainly park paths, flat and suitable for buggies, dogs and wheelchairs; the lap was altered because of park restrictions.

The profile is effectively level, with only about 15 metres of climbing per lap. Late November in Glasgow usually brings cold air, wind off the river and wet paths. The 5k and 10k fields join the same circuit half an hour after the half starts, so it gets busier from the second lap on.

The race belongs to The Fix Events' MoRunning series in support of Movember, with a fancy dress line-up before the start. It is chip timed, and placings go by gun time.

Pacing Strategy

On a flat lap the danger is going out too fast. Run the opening loop and first lap deliberately easy, then use the laps as checkpoints: the splits should be almost identical.

From the second lap you will be passing slower 5k and 10k runners; keep to the racing line and do not waste energy weaving. On windy days, tuck in behind others on the open stretches.

The fourth lap decides the race. If you have been even up to then, this is where you hold pace or squeeze a little more.

Training plan for Glasgow MoRun: 12-week build

A flat half marathon is above all a test of aerobic endurance. Build the long run to 18 to 22 kilometres and include sections at planned race pace.

One weekly threshold session, such as 3 x 10 minutes brisk with short recoveries, helps you hold pace over four laps. With almost no climbing, evenness matters more than hill strength.

Test your kit in wet, windy weather, because in Glasgow in late November that is the norm.
