La Mezza di Treviso: Course, Route Profile & Map

La Mezza di Treviso is about as flat as a half-marathon course can be: 93 metres of climbing over twenty-one kilometres, with the entire profile inside a fifteen-metre band. What sets it apart from other fast courses is the finish - back along the Sile and in through the gate into the walled old town.

Course & Elevation

The start is at 09:30 on the Viale Bartolomeo d'Alviano, just outside the city walls of Treviso. The course leaves town eastwards through the comuni of Carbonera and Silea - flat Venetian farmland - before working back towards the Sile.

Over twenty-one kilometres the profile is quickly told: from nineteen metres at the start it drops to four by kilometre thirteen, which is the way down to the river, and comes back up to ten. Sixty-five per cent of the course is flat, there is no steep ground, and the profile builder finds no climb at all.

The closing part is the reason to run this course rather than any other flat one: it comes in through the Parco del Sile, along the longest resurgence river in Europe, and the final kilometres run inside the medieval walls to the finish at Borgo Cavour. 2026 is the twelfth edition and the race sits in the FIDAL calendar. Starting alongside it is the Tiramisù Run over 10.1 km - non-competitive, no medical certificate needed, named for the dessert Treviso claims as its own, and already sold out for 2026 by September.

Pacing Strategy

On a course without a single climb there is only one tactical question, and that is the honesty of the opening pace. No rise slows you, no descent hands recovery back, and after the first kilometres there are no crowds to give the effort structure either - beyond the edge of town you are running across open farmland.

So the trap is the shared start. The 10.1 km Tiramisù Run goes off at the same moment, and half the field around you is running half your distance at a pace that will not work for you. On the Viale Bartolomeo d'Alviano and the opening kilometres towards Carbonera the field is dense and quick; hold your own effort.

The race is decided between kilometres twelve and eighteen, on the way back along the Sile. That is the most featureless part of the course - riverside roads, straight, no spectators - and that is where it shows whether the first ten kilometres in the wake of the 10 km field were too fast. Still running evenly there, and you can make the closing kilometres through the gate and the streets of the old town your quickest of the day.

Training plan for La Mezza di Treviso: 12-week build

For most age-group runners the half is a 1:10 to 2:30 effort. Physiologically it is a sustained near-threshold one with no terrain demand at all: no steep section, no technical surface, and a profile whose full range is under fifteen metres.

The training emphasis is accordingly standard threshold work - intervals of six to twelve minutes just inside race effort, tempo runs of 25 to 45 minutes - plus at least one test run of 15 to 18 kilometres at target race pace. Hill training buys nothing here.

What does pay directly is holding pace with no external stimulus. The stretch between kilometres twelve and eighteen is straight, flat and empty, and that situation is never practised on varied training loops. A few tempo sessions run alone on a long, straight, featureless route are more specific to this course than any track work.

Conditions are a mid-October Sunday morning on the Venetian plain: mild, often misty along the river early, with a 09:30 start. The farmland sections around Carbonera and Silea are open and unsheltered - on a course that offers nothing else in the way of resistance, wind is the one external variable to plan for.
