Obermögersheimer Koderlauf.

The Spielerei is the new long course at the Obermögersheimer Koderlauf: from the Sportheim up to the Wachtlerspitze, on via the Spielberg to the Gelber Berg and back, with real trail along the way. Two places define it, the steep climb right after the first food station and the short ramps of the second half, when your legs are already tired.

Obermögersheimer Koderlauf 2027: Course, Elevation & Route Profile

The first kilometre from the Sportheim Obermögersheim barely rises, then around 100 metres of climbing lead to about km 3, followed by a descent back to just above 500 metres. That is where you meet the Bundesstraße and, at km 5.3, the first food station. Immediately behind it starts the hardest climb of the loop: 114 metres in 1.35 kilometres, peaking at around 20 percent.

Around km 9 you reach the highest ground at a little over 620 metres and stay up there for a long while, until the second food station at km 12.5 on the Gelber Berg, where the course drops away steeply. After that its character changes. The long climbs are over, replaced between km 14 and 19 by four short ramps, two of them spiking above 19 percent.

From km 19 a last big step takes you down to the Bundesstraße and the third station at km 20.5. Sections like this one run in public traffic, so take care at the crossings. The fourth station comes at km 22.6, then the loop rolls out to the Sportheim. There is food again at the finish, and an evening celebration closes the day. This course joined the programme for 2027, after a first edition in 2026 that drew 399 registrations.

Climb categories follow the road-cycling convention and rate the terrain itself (length and gradient) regardless of sport: Cat. 4 marks the easiest rated climbs, Cat. 1 the hardest, and HC (hors catégorie, “beyond categorization”) is reserved for the most brutal ascents. Short climbs below the Cat. 4 threshold stay unrated.

Pacing Strategy

How to pace Obermögersheimer Koderlauf.

Start

Start under control

Up to km 9 you collect nearly half the climbing, and you pay for that phase later. Run the first climb calmly and take your time at the km 5.3 station, because what follows is not running terrain for most of the field. Hike the steepest stretches briskly rather than forcing them: at 20 percent, running saves little and costs a lot.

Mid-race

Hold your rhythm

The race is decided between the second and third food stations. Those eight kilometres hold all four late ramps, none of them big on its own. They catch you around two hours in, on a stretch with nothing to refill from, so eat and drink on the Gelber Berg even if you feel good.

Finish

Spend what is left

The trap is the high ground after km 9. It runs easily, and if you push there and then take the steep descent flat out, you arrive at the ramps with empty quads. Coming back to the Bundesstraße you will be moving fast downhill: no crossing is worth saving seconds.

Training plan · 12 weeks

Training plan for Obermögersheimer Koderlauf: 12-week build

Base

Build the base

Age-group runners will be out on this loop for roughly 2:45 to 3:45 hours. That is a long aerobic effort that never turns steady: short hard spikes on the ramps alternate with steep downhill running, and the only sustained running comes on the high ground and in the last few kilometres.

Core

Train race pace

The two key places ask for different things. The climb from km 5.4 needs brisk uphill hiking and strength through the calves. The ramps after km 14 need you to restart several times around two hours in and to get over the steep pitches between them without fading.

Specific

Rehearse the course

That points to the session that counts: a long off-road run with the climbing placed late, taking the final hour over short steep hills. Hill repeats, hiked briskly up and run back down, prepare your legs for both demands. Practise descending on tired legs too, since about a tenth of this course falls steeply.

Race week

Arrive fresh

The route has real trail in it, so part of this work belongs on forest paths rather than tarmac. With the race in late May, the long build falls in spring. Use the long runs to test what you will eat at the stations, and plan for the eight kilometres without resupply.
