Course & Elevation

The lap starts on the Weberzeile and runs via Rainerstraße, Bayrhammergasse and Froschaugasse to the Schärdinger Tor, on across the Roßmarkt and Gebhartgasse to the Stelzhamerplatz, around the church and back along Schwanthalergasse and Eislaufgasse.

Three of those laps plus the short finishing leg make 4,650 metres. The organiser's event page quotes 4,500 metres, which is the laps without that finish; the longer figure is what gets run.

The course stays entirely in the town centre on tarmac and is correspondingly twisty: narrow lanes, a loop around the church and several right-angle turns per lap. At around 30 metres across the whole distance the profile is effectively flat, and even that figure is closer to measurement noise than terrain, given an elevation band under seven metres.

Pacing Strategy

A three-lap corporate run through a town centre is decided by evenness and clean corners rather than strength. In a dense field the first lap is always the slowest; that is not a loss but the precondition for the third being the fastest.

With a lap of just over 1.5 kilometres, lap time is your control. Compare lap two to lap one: if it holds or improves, you judged it right.

The corners are the trap. With several right-angle turns and the church loop each lap, braking and rebuilding adds up considerably over three laps. Running the corners tight and smooth, rather than braking before each and surging after, saves more than any surge on the straights will gain. And for the team result it is the sum of all three runners' times that counts, not the fastest.

Training plan for business2run WEBERZEILE: 12-week build

For most participants the run takes roughly 18 to 30 minutes. It is a short, uniformly intense effort at or just above threshold, with no recovery phase and no elevation to set the rhythm.

Despite the flat profile the course is not uniform: the many tight corners force constant small changes of pace, so the load comes as a series of short spikes rather than one steady effort.

What decides it is returning to pace immediately after every corner, and doing so equally well on all three laps.

Suitable training is intervals of two to four minutes at threshold and short fartlek sessions with frequent pace changes rather than long steady blocks. One or two sessions on a short town-centre circuit with real corners prepare you specifically. And since the race starts at 7 pm, at least one hard session at that time of day is worth doing: most runners do their quality work earlier.
