The Dany Sport Corralejo Grandes Playas Marathon is an asphalt marathon in the north of Fuerteventura: the half-marathon course run twice, from the centre of Corralejo along the dunes of the Grandes Playas to Montaña Roja and back. It is flat, has a small field and lies wide open to the sun on the coast. Also known as Corralejo Marathon and Maratón Corralejo Grandes Playas.
Start and finish are on Corralejo's main street, Avenida Nuestra Señora del Carmen. From there the course heads south out of town along the Grandes Playas, the dune field that backs the beaches, to Montaña Roja, the red volcanic cone at the southern end of the sand. You turn there and run back to Corralejo, and then do it all again. The profile stays between sea level and about 16 metres.
The organiser advertises the course as 100 percent asphalt, and the panorama of dunes, Atlantic and the islands of Lobos and Lanzarote is the reason to run here. With around 500 runners expected across all distances, the second lap gets quiet and you will often run alone. Aid stations every 2.5 km carry water, isotonic drink, fruit and cola.
The organisers, a Corralejo sports shop and a local events company, stage the fourth edition in 2026 and reserve 55 percent of places for women.

Climb categories follow the road-cycling convention and rate the terrain itself (length and gradient) regardless of sport: Cat. 4 marks the easiest rated climbs, Cat. 1 the hardest, and HC (hors catégorie, “beyond categorization”) is reserved for the most brutal ascents. Short climbs below the Cat. 4 threshold stay unrated.
Two identical laps make the plan transparent: the first lap is the benchmark, the second is the test. Run the first half so that you can repeat it in the same time, because the course has no climbs to lose time on and no descents to win it back.
The deciding stretch is the second trip out to Montaña Roja from about km 25. By then the half, 10K and 5K fields have finished, the road empties, and towards midday the sun sits high over the pale dunes. The cut-off at the Playa del Moro aid station at km 32, 12:40, will not trouble most runners, but it tells you how late it gets out there.
The trap is going with the half marathoners, who start at 9:30 and come past fresh, during the cool early phase.

For age-group runners this is three and a half to five and a half hours of steady aerobic work. On flat ground it is not strength on a climb that decides it but the ability to hold one pace for hours.
The key phase is the second lap, alone and without a crowd. In your long runs, practise holding pace yourself over the second half of an out-and-back or loop, with no group and no spectators.
In December on Fuerteventura the coastal sun is the main environmental factor. If you are arriving from winter, do some runs overdressed or indoors, practise drinking at stations every 2.5 km, and plan sun protection for a run that goes on into midday.
As a focus, long runs to 32-35 km, marathon-pace blocks in the final third and steady tempo runs on asphalt are enough; hill work plays a minor role here.
