LIGHT ON TRI Madine.

The L*** is the half-distance race at LIGHT ON TRI Madine and the only format held on the Saturday: two swim laps in the Lac de Madine, two bike laps over the higher ground north-west of the lake and three run laps along the shore. As the series finale, it asks above all for a bike ride that still leaves legs for the half marathon.

LIGHT ON TRI Madine 2027: Course, Elevation & Route Profile

The start is from the lake beach with two laps of 950 metres, split by a short run across the sand. Transition and finish are at the Madine 1 site on the Nonsard-Lamarche side, the finish under the arch in the Village LIGHT ON, where spectators and finishers gather.

The bike course is two identical laps. Each starts flat on the plain around the lake, then climbs twice for just under two kilometres onto the higher ground and, after a longer descent, returns flat to transition. Aid is at kilometres 14 and 52, in each case shortly after the first climb of a lap.

The run is the counterweight: three seven-kilometre laps between road and paths along the shore, with almost no relief and five aid stations. Since every lap passes the village, you see the crowd on the beach several times. In mid-September, at the end of the triathlon season, the weather is open; past participants mostly mention the wind across the open lake plain.

Short climbs below the Cat. 4 threshold stay unrated.

Pacing Strategy

How to pace LIGHT ON TRI Madine.

Start

Settle into the race

Spread the effort right and the race is decided in the middle of the half marathon. Swim the first lap in control, use the beach exit to breathe, and ride the first bike lap deliberately below the pressure you have in mind: the four climbs onto the plateau add up, and the second lap is harder than the first if the wind is up.

Mid-race

Spread the effort

The trap is the flat sections around the lake. A high speed feels cheap there, yet that is exactly where a headwind costs most.

Finish

Finish strong

Hold power steady rather than speed, and treat the three run laps as a race that really begins on the second lap.

Training plan · 12 weeks

Training plan for LIGHT ON TRI Madine: 12-week build

Base

Build all three disciplines

Expect roughly 4:30 to 6:30 hours depending on your level. The cut-offs are structural: the swim must be done within 1:10 hours and the bike within 5:30 hours of the start, so slower athletes should plan their bike effort around them.

Core

Brick sessions

The effort is long and aerobic, broken by four bike climbs that push briefly above threshold. What decides the race is how fresh you are getting off the bike after about 85 kilometres, because the flat run has no gradient to cap your pace for you.

Specific

Practise transitions

Train long rides on the aero bars with repeated five to eight minute climbs in the second half, followed by brick runs at half-marathon pace. Add open-water sessions in a wetsuit and practise the beach exit between two laps.

Race week

Arrive fresh

The mid-September date makes this the end of a long summer: plan the season so you do not arrive tired, and test your fuelling in cooler, windier weather.
