Bridging the gap between science and reality

Welcome to the YOUB Performance Blog

Where science meets reality

If you’re here to read the hundredth definition of FTP or are looking for a dry academic treatise on $VO_{2}max$, we’re going to have to disappoint you.

The internet is full of that. Wikipedia does it better, and ChatGPT can summarize it for you in three seconds.

We are here for what comes after the theory. We are here for the application in reality.

Because while the flood of data is rising and knowledge is exploding, the big picture is getting lost. Athletes today know more than ever—yet many fail at integrating that knowledge into their daily lives and applying it meaningfully.

That is exactly our mission:

Theory applied to your practice.

An Example: The "Heat Training" Hype

Take the current trend of heat training. Science says: "Yes, studies show significant increases in plasma volume and hemoglobin mass." That is correct. But what the studies don't tell you is the crucial question:

Does this even make sense for you?

What do +/- 30g more hemoglobin mass actually mean for your performance? And more importantly: How do you integrate heat training into your plan? Should you even do it at all?

  • Are you a pro? Do you train 25 hours a week and have been scraping against your physiological limit for years? Then heat training might be exactly the stimulus you’ve been missing. Go for it.

  • Are you an ambitious age-grouper? Do you have a 40-hour job, two kids, chronic sleep deprivation, and squeeze 8 to 10 hours of training into your week? Then additional heat stress isn't a "bio-hack." It is most likely the direct path to hormonal burnout, overreach, and stagnation.

This is exactly where we step in with this blog. We look at current trends, myths, and perennials—always from two perspectives:

  1. The Scientific Perspective: What is the physiological mechanism? What is evidence, and what is marketing? We take a very close look at the current state of research.

  2. The Practical Perspective: How can this knowledge be integrated into daily life? We clarify individual transferability and feed these topics with practical knowledge and experience from coaching and everyday athletic life.

We answer the questions that actually matter:

  • Not: “What is Zone 2?”

But: “Should you implement strict Zone 2 training if you only have 5 hours a week?”

  • Not: “Which sessions are best for a race simulation?”

But: “How should race simulations be structured, and what content should you focus on?”

  • Not: “What are carbohydrates?”

But: “Under what conditions is low-carb a powerful tool, and when is it driving your training into a wall?”

We started YOUB to make training not just more data-driven, but more understandable.

This blog is an extension of our philosophy. We want you to understand why you are doing something. Because, firstly, training works better when you understand the purpose behind it, and secondly, it teaches you how to make independent adjustments in your daily routine.

We provide the science. But we serve it with the context you need.

Welcome to the team.
